Porsche A/C compressors are responsible for keeping coolant moving through the air conditioning system. Problems with the unit might actually be problems with the auxiliary components, such as the drive belt or the clutch. Check both of these components before replacing the entire unit. Having too much or too little coolant in the system can also cause it to malfunction. Check the pressure levels before and after doing any repairs.

Problems Finding the Right Porsche A/C Compressor?

The same model Porsche will generally use the same A/C components for several years. For example, the same compressor was used in all Boxsters from 1997 through 2004. The 911 used the same unit from 1984 to 1989. This isn't true for just the Porsche, of course, or even just A/C compressors. The Plymouth Voyager used the same condenser from 1992 to 1995. If it is difficult to locate the needed replacement part when searching for a particular year, try expanding the search to the other years of the same auto model that used the same part.

Once the repairs have been made, remember a couple tips to keep the air conditioning system working well. Check the coolant levels periodically to make sure there aren't any large leaks. Also, turn the air conditioning on periodically as well, like once a week, even if just for a few minutes, to keep the coolant and lubricant where it needs to be.

A-Air sells new and rebuilt A/C compressors for Porsche, Plymouth, Pontiac and dozens of other auto makes.
