Buying Mercedes A/C Parts

First, locate a Mercedes repair manual. The local library might have the manual for the model and year in question. If it doesn't, they are available for purchase online and in certain retail stores. The manual should contain all the information needed to do the necessary repairs, including wiring diagrams and schematics for the other systems.

Classic Mercedes parts are available from online retailers. If there is a junkyard nearby, it may also have some of the parts that are needed. For newer models, finding parts online shouldn't be a problem. Basic repair components, such as filters and rings, might be available at the local auto parts store.

There are dozens of online retailers that sell Mercedes A/C compressors. It's important to note, though, that A/C repairs should not be attempted by a novice repairperson. In autos built before 1990, the refrigerant used in the system, R-12, is highly toxic. Later models use the more environmentally friendly R-134a coolant, but it is still dangerous and illegal to vent.

This, in addition to the complexities inherent in the A/C system, makes air conditioning repairs a job for professional mechanics. This does not mean that laypersons should not purchase the necessary replacements. Just make sure to take the vehicle, and the components, to a mechanic to do the replacement.
